Orhan Pamuk has been awarded the 2010 Norman Mailer Lifetime Achievement Award for challenging conventional views in his contributions to literature. The prize was awarded on 20th October by editor, writer and publisher Tina Brown from the Norman Mailer Center and Norman Mailer Writers Colony at the Center's annual Benefit Gala in New York City. In his speech Pamuk said the following: “Norman Mailer worked as an author against the established American order for 60 years. He was the Victor Hugo of America. Being a recipient of this award is an honor. I’m elated.”
